Playing at the MainLine Theatre in Montréal $20.00 regular “When a good-looking stranger appears in the village, a dysfunctional family is forced to confront their involvement in a tragic rape that occurred in the neighbourhood a few years earlier, triggering acts of revenge and a near repetition of the previous tragedy. These events seem to exorcise ghosts of the past which have driven a wedge between the family members as well as between themselves and their community, causing them to stagnate and decay emotionally” First presented as a workshop production in conjunction with Magnetic North Theatre Festival in 2003, Glen Nichols' translation of this gripping piece will finally find a home in Montréal. Set in a small fishing town in Acadian New Brunswick in the early 1970s, Dark Owl follows the story of a family who is tortured by a tragic event that occurred several years earlier. In trying to break their silence and isolation from themselves and their community, the four children of the family begin reliving their past, re-enacting the moment when the mysterious man entered into their neighbourhood and changed their lives forever. Including text from Goupil’s original Acadian version, this biting and intense premiere features some of Montréal’s freshest talents in both English and French Montréal. Starring: Holly Gauthier–Frankel, Dan Jeannotte, Catherine Lemieux, Léa Rondot, Liz Burns and Gilles Plouffe Directed by: Jessica Abdallah Set Design: Jennifer Goodman Stage Management: Paul Brian Imperial |
